Thinking Skills

The Amazing Journey

In the spring of 2000, BSNI was approached by Baptist Youth to support a new Bible Story-telling initiative in schools called 'The Amazing Journey'. The aim was to work in partnership with local churches to present the Scriptures to school children in a highly visual way, using a chronological display (which fills an assembly hall), captivating narration, and characters who would walk on at various points, in costume, to tell their own story.

Each child receives a pack to take home which includes a Scripture portion and the offer of a free 'Big Word for Kids' - CEV New Testament - a gift from the Bible Society.

Black Mountain Primary had the pleasure of participating in this initiative today. The children had lots of fun and learned about the Bible.

Examples of Poetry P4/5

THE LITTLE TREE THINKS
I'm next!
Waiting in fear
for the bulldozer's bite
and chainsaw's silver teeth of death
Save me
(an example of Cinquain poetry)

TREE SPELL
Wake up sleeping tree
Get dressed quickly in new green
Spring knocks at your door.

TREES TALKING AT NIGHT
When darkness takes hold
Listen to the trees talking
Sharing their secrets
(examples of Haiku poetry)

Earth shaker
Bark ripper
Tree cruncher
Root puller
Branch biter
Twig snapper
Leaf snatcher
Seed eater
Log breaker
Tree feller
BULLDOZER!
(an example of Kenning poetry)

She stares from the tree
When darkness falls, old viened hands
Stretch out to grasp me
Green eyes gleam through matted hair
Grinning her broken toothed smile
(an example of Tanka poetry)
